Area and Square Inch Tiles
Ages 5-7 years
MATH IDEAS
Children discover the process of designing floor plans and the exteriors of houses. They will learn to use the square-inch tile as a unit of measurement. The story introduces the concept of area through the combination of a guided process, providing children with space to explore and shape their own solutions to solve for the areas of their floorplans. Every house design reflects cross-cultural influences in the multicultural town of Whatever.

Pipa the Architect
The teams of children and adult characters in the town of Whatever have to design floorplans and exterior designs of model houses. Exposing children early on to the concept of area and square-inch tile prepares them for the more abstract equations in later grades.
The lessons (available as a separate product) provide the young readers to experience their own process of designing floorplans and model houses.
